Water is the driving force of all nature.
– Leonardo da Vinci
The last time you reached for a drink, was it a glass of water? If you answered no, you may want to reconsider.
According to recent research, more than 40 percent of adults between the ages of 20 and 50 do not drink enough water. Even worse, in America, the most popular beverage is sugary soda. Check out these five reasons to drink more water before you decide to grab another can of Coke.
- Water helps control your weight. Instead of filling your body with all the artificial ingredients of a diet soda, a glass of water helps you feel full and consume fewer calories without the negative side effects of aspartame and phosphoric acid – one causes cancer and the other erodes tooth enamel.
- Water gives you clearer skin. Some of the toxins we consume find their way to our skin causing inflammation, clogged pores and acne. Only water flushes out these pesky toxins, thus reducing the risk of pimples and giving your skin an overall healthier appearance.
- Water fights fatigue. Thought you needed coffee in the morning and a mid-afternoon soda to keep your energy levels up? Think again. One of the most common symptoms of dehydration is feeling tired. A glass of water combats dehydration and perks you up, naturally.
- Water prevents pain. Aching joints and muscle cramps get worse without water. Having enough H2O in your system aids in joint lubrication and maintains your body’s fluid balance.
- Water keeps things flowing. This one is kind of obvious, but if you don’t have enough water in your system, your kidneys can’t function optimally and eliminate waste from your body. Your colon needs the right amount of fluid, too, as does your entire digestive system.
So, next time you take a trip to the vending machine for your favorite beverage, try grabbing a bottle of water instead. Your body will thank you in countless ways, and you’ll feel better, plain and simple. Just like water.
